Crucial Squad (Step)
Crucial Squad is a step team. Step is very popular among, and is performed by, African American sororities and fraternities. The act of using just hands and feet to make rhythms and music is deeply rooted in African American culture. Most who perform step do not like it to be called dance, or for the group to be called a dance team. The team at the high school was formed in 2003-2004 by Jessica Brooks and Marlinda Tyson. The advisor is Jim Larson
Practices are held twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school.
Performances are during half time at the varsity boys basketball home games, at pep fests, and at other events. Usually a couple of weeks after the season starts, The Crucial Squad will go to the middle school or one of the elementary schools to teach those students how to step.
