Science Fair

The first Eden Prairie Schools' Science Fair took place in April of 2006. The fair was created to promote the pursuit of science by students in grades K-12. Interested students are encouraged to develop experiments that answer their questions about the world around them, by isolating, controlling, and testing variables. To design, develop and complete a science fair project requires students to use their powers of observation, imagination, originality and tenacity. The more they put into the project, the more they get from it. Parent volunteers help with judging and the running of the fair.

The fair is held during the second half of the school year at Eden Prairie High School, although the month can vary. (The 2007 fair is January 20th.) The schools will be publishing information about the fair about four months in advance of the actual date, and our website Upcoming Events page should be updated with a link to details as soon as we get them. Registration is required approximately one month in advance. It is possible that arrangements can be made for students in upper grades (5-12) to receive "coaching" help during the process of working on the project. The coach would meet every 1-2 weeks with the students in a group (minimum group of 6) to ensure students are making progress, following the Fair guidelines and doing projects at the level of rigor necessary for competition. This option was offered for a fee ($75) in the 2006-07 school year and required very early registration, so if your student would be interested in that, please watch for early signs of Science Fair information.
