EPCGT Site Rep

For each of our school sites, we have EPCGT site reps who are members of our board who have volunteered to provide support for the gifted staff and for any member parents who would like another parent to talk to. Please feel free to contact them; we all understand the need for someone to listen. If you are looking for specific information they don’t have, they will do their best to get the answers for you. For names and emails of site reps and other board members, please see Board and Site Reps.

About Spanish Immersion at Eden Prairie

The Spanish Immersion Program at Eden Prairie for the 2008-09 school year will be the fourth year with students beginning grade 3. The program will begin at the Eden Prairie Eagle Heights Spanish Immersion School with six-sections of half-day kindergarten; six-sections of grade 1;  six-sections of grade 2; four-sections of grade 3. Spanish Immersion students who complete grade 6 at Eagle Heights Spanish Immersion will then move to the middle school (CMS) where they will continue learning new content in the Spanish language, grouped with other Spanish Immersion students.

Eden Prairie’s Spanish Immersion Program K-6 will be full immersion, with all instruction in Spanish for the entire school session with the exception of special areas like music and physical education, unless Spanish-speaking instructors can be hired. The application process is open to all students but is not recommended for Spanish-only speaking students, as they may not get English exposure to become fluent in English.

Students enrolled in the program are automatically continued in the program unless otherwise requested. New students can enter the program at any age if the grade level has openings and the students pass tests on written and oral skills in both English and Spanish.

All children who receive support from Student Support Services (special education, ESL, Title 1, gifted/talented, health services, etc.) will receive services and programming at Eagle Heights Spanish Immersion.

English/Language Arts instruction will begin in 3rd grade for the majority of Spanish Immersion students. Assessments at the end of kindergarten and first grade may identify students in need of remedial support for English/Language Arts in grade 2.
