The mission of EPCGT is "to promote awareness of the unique needs of gifted children and to support educational and social opportunities to meet those needs."

The mission of MCGT is: Connections. Support. Resources. Advocacy.

Welcome! We're glad you're here!

You've reached the site of the Eden Prairie chapter of the Minnesota Council for the Gifted and Talented. We are parents who actively seek ways to help gifted children thrive, to promote educational rigor, and to support families, teachers and community. We are open to all - identified as gifted or not, Eden Prairie schools or not - and we would be happy to have you join us!

Our board meetings are generally held the first Friday of each month and begin at 9:30 a.m. with a topic of discussion that lasts approximately 1 hour, followed by 30 minutes of gifted support or concerns, before we start the business meeting. Please join us! See the calendar below for more details.

10:30-11:00 open discussion / support  / gifted questions
11:00 business meeting (everyone is welcome to attend)

Topic: Executive Functioning at Home and School
Success in school is greatly influenced by executive functioning skills. When a student’s executive functioning skills are not well developed, he/she may not do well in school despite having the ability and skills to do so. Join Eden Prairie Gifted/Talented Specialist Karen Oakes for a presentation and discussion about Executive Functioning. Karen will explain what executive functioning skills are, how they develop, and how they impact academic achievement and social skills. Strategies for parenting and academic modifications will be presented and discussed.
Karen Oakes has been teaching gifted elementary students for over 20 years and is a parent of two gifted children. She has experience with executive functioning as both a parent and teacher, and has made presentations to classroom teachers about the topic.

The Eden Prairie Council for Gifted and Talented (EPCGT) is an all volunteer parent group offering support for parents of high ability children. The next EPCGT meeting will be devoted to offering support to parents who may have questions related to their gifted child.

Coffee & Treats will be served.
Everyone (including children) are welcome; you are free to come and leave as your schedule allows.
