SEGO (Students for Equitable Global Opportunities)
Students at Eden Prairie High School have shown a desire to analyze local, national and global issues and become involved in positive change. With the creation of SEGO (Students for Equitable Global Opportunities), high school students from Eden Prairie and around the world will have a forum to discuss issues, present perspectives and offer equitable solutions to those in decision-making roles. Inevitably, those students involved will have an opportunity to become enlightened citizens, and more engaged in their world.
Mission: SEGO is a nonpartisan international network of high school age students, providing a forum to develop and explore creative equitable solutions to global issues. SEGO's mission is focused on four areas:
- Culture - embracing cultural diversity
- Politics - promoting freedom of expression, human rights, democratic policies and institutions
- Economics - promoting global economic sustainability
- Environment - supporting policies that sustain a healthy global environment
2006-2007 - SEGO has sponsored two political debates, will sponsor a blues-rock concert to raise money for African relief, will sponsor a diversity concert, and will promote energy conservation via an initiative that promotes using efficient light bulbs. SEGO will also dedicate some new parts of the peace garden at the east entrance to the high school in May.
Meetings: Every Friday in room 137 from 7:25 to 7:50 a.m
